Sarah’s faith embraced the miracle power to conceive even though she was barren and was past the age of childbearing, for the authority of her faith rested in the One who made the promise, and she tapped into His faithfulness.
– Hebrews 11:11 (The Passion Translation)
There are promises, prophetic words and dreams given to us from the heart of God, that many of us are holding onto. Often, when we receive a word from Him, we are tested, refined and purified in the process. There are moments (seasons, years even!!), where life seems diametrically opposite to the word we were given. Ugghhhh…not fun. LOL! But it’s in the process that we are being transformed into the image of Christ, our motives are being refined and we become more and more liberated from every self-serving and self-promoting nature.
In the Bible, we see many examples of a word or promise given, only to be fiercely tested, seemingly delayed by circumstances and even completely beyond dead!! Abraham was 75 when God gave the promise of an heir (Genesis 12:4; 15:4), yet it was TWENTY-FIVE YEARS later, when the fulfillment of that promise came about through his son Isaac! In those 25 years, he fought battles with kings, had relationship trials (think, nephew Lot hahaha!), and experienced years of barrenness and wandering. Not what we would expect after receiving a revolutionary word from God that would affect generations to come! Sarah, his wife, doubted, laughed at and detoured (as did Abe) from believing in God’s promise, yet in HIS Sovereign, brilliant plan, the faithfulness of God did not waver, even though humans and circumstances did. His faithfulness and ability to fulfill His promise, is our foundation.
No matter where you are today, wrestling with delays, disappointments and hope deferred, I want to encourage you that the ONE who knows our frailties and understands our weaknesses, will never, ever let us down.
He desires our hearts to fully trust in His kindness.
He is not intimidated by our hard questions.
He comforts us as we weep over disappointments.
He sits with us in the ashes of broken dreams.
He empathizes with us as we agonize over unmet expectations.
He transforms us as we fix our eyes and hearts on HIM and draws us to place our hope, confidence and expectation in the certainty of His unfailing love, and that when we do, we will not ashamed.
“Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
~ Deuteronomy 7:9
God is faithful and has a great track record of keeping His promises. Let’s lean into Him and remain there. His heart is FOR us.
