We spent a few days in Cabo over Spring break and I wanted to share some of my highlights, tips and recommendations of this beautiful resort city!
One of the sweetest highlights was an amazing answer to prayer. As we were in the plane, Gabriel all of a sudden took my hand and said, “Mommy, let’s pray.” So hubby, Gabriel and I held hands as he prayed, “Dear Abba, give me a friend to play with. In Jesus’ Name Amen.” To say I was smitten by his precious, trusting faith is an understatement!
Well, on our very first day at the hotel, we met a sweet family who sat right next to us poolside. They also happened to have a son the same age as ours and to top it off, they were Christians! Crazy right??Gabriel’s prayer was answered so beautifully and so quickly. (I should have him pray for all my requests…hahaha!!) Not only did our sons play together for the remainder of our trip, (their fav was playing at the Kids Club what a God send that place was!!) but we as parents were able to encourage one another in our walk and our mutual love for the Lord, for His Presence, exchange our favorite worship songs, have a double date and swap kid stories…LOL! I absolutely love how when we engage with the Lord and invite Him to be a part of every area of our lives (even on vacation!) He brilliantly lavishes His kindness in the small but important details.
One of the days that we explored around San José del Cabo, we came across a baby goat sprinting on the side of the road as hubby tried to get its attention. Then we realized, it was being chased by a dog and a young boy and I guess the adorable baby goat was the boy’s pet but what a wild adventure to take in right there in real time as we were driving around. I’m glad it was safe and unharmed. Sweet thing, I almost wanted to take it home with us. Not sure the customs officials would be too excited about that!
While not chasing baby goats :), we chased beautiful ocean views and found some quiet spots in La Playita that were absolutely spectacular! I don’t know about you, but it’s so healing and life giving to my soul to sit on the shore and witness the grandeur and magnitude of the ocean. There’s something so wild, liberating and awe-inspiring to listen to the sound of the crashing waves. It always leaves my heart in a posture of worship to think of the vastness and brilliance of our Creator and that, that very same powerful God would gently stoop down to love and choose me!
Besides being undone by the ocean and chilling at the beach, some of my other highlights and must see spots particularly in San José, are the following:
* San José del Cabo – Only 15 minutes from the airport (if you’re taking the toll road). It’s not as commercial as Cabo, much quieter and quaint. We love the laid back local scene, the art galleries and downtown shops and restaurants, organic farms, the beaches and the beautiful Spanish colonial architecture.
* La Panga – Beautiful garden restaurant, just off the main square and situated across from the church in San José. When you step in to the courtyard, be prepared to have a breathtaking experience. The ambience is so lovely and the food is fresh, organic and incredibly delicious.
* Acre – This stunning restaurant, cocktail bar, terrace, event space, organic farm and soon to come treehouse accommodation, is on a 25 acre piece of farmland, nestled in a palm forest in the foothills of the Laguna mountains. This place is absolutely impressive on every level! What’s so funny is that, we had to take a rocky, dirt road that led to this upscale yet rustic charm! You won’t be disappointed. Definitely a must-see!
* Flora Farms – Flora Farms is just a stone’s throw away from Acre and is a tranquil, full functioning, hand tended organic farm. They also have 10-12 cottages on their property, privately owned. We walked through the Culinary Cottage model and loved the furniture, design and handcrafted details. We also ate at the main restaurant and enjoyed the most scrumptious cauliflower and ginger appetizer, roasted corn in cilantro-lime sauce and grilled pork chops. (I generally don’t eat pork…but had a few bites of my hubby’s dish). Oswald was our server. He was incredibly friendly and even gave us free dessert: flan and carrot cake. Delectable! I met a sweet lady named Daphne, who was working near the Flora Farms produce shop, which had a large variety and bountiful stock of fruits and vegetables. Hands down one of my most favorite highlights was just taking in all that fresh, organic, earthy yumminess!!
* Airport Tip – When you head back home, there’s a souvenir shop at the airport you have to go through in order to get to your gate. I have found that the other shops further inside the airport, have more selections as far as cute magnets, curios and better prices on Mexican vanilla. (You can still head back to that first shop if you don’t find what you’re looking for elsewhere).
* Rental Car – For any Costco members out there, I would suggest booking through your Costco membership number, as you will get a discount. (Unfortunately, we didn’t get around to using the discount on this trip, but next time we definitely will). Once you’re at the rental location, it’s a fairly painless process and highly recommended if you’re the type that likes to explore on your own, sans cab.
I’m so grateful we had a sweet and refreshing time as a family and in addition, got to make some amazing friendships! What are some of your favorite vacay spots and travel adventures? Be sure to write in the comments below and send me your recommendations.
Remember, we’re all in this together! 🙂
Much Love,
~ Johanna
