I asked Gabriel this morning, “Do you know why it’s Good Friday today?” He responded, “Yes, because I don’t have school!” LOL!! He then looked at a picture of the cross on my phone and said, “It’s about Jesus dying on the Cross and that makes me sad.” Awww…isn’t it amazing how a child’s heart is so unfiltered in their love for Jesus?

As I thought about the relentless love of our Savior, these scriptures spoke so loudly to my heart and absolutely wrecked me!

“Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of Himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of Himself that He had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all.

When the time came, He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, He stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, He lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.

Because of that obedience, God lifted Him high and honored Him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that He is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.”

~ ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5-11‬ ‭MSG

What a fierce and astonishing love that Jesus would lay down His life and not only die for us but as us. He took what we deserve so we could receive what He deserves. Our sin for His righteousness. Our sicknesss for His healing. Our brokenness for His wholeness. Our bondage for His freedom!

He didn’t die a brutal death so we could live in religious boxes with a set of rules. He died, to lavish the most selfless love on us and be in relationship with us! Thank You JESUS for being our Champion and for the extravagant price You paid so that we could be reconciled and reunited to Father’s heart!

One of my favorite songs has these stunning lyrics that so beautifully describe His love:

Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made,

Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade,

To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry.

Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky

(O Love Of God)
